WHAT IS THIS ? |
|
"I recently acquired, with the help of my Polish pal Piotr Koziel, two
superficially identical Austrian M92 helmets. Well, they are identical
except one has a Gallet label stuck on the interior of the shell and a
Gallet tag sewn into the liner, and the other has a patch where a label
has been removed and no tag, and no obvious sign it was ever there.
Other than that they do appear identical, except for one further thing. |
SCHUBERTH 826 |
|
As used by Austrian Gendarmerie - a national police formation which was merged into the Federal Police in 2005 440 helmets of these helmets were sourced from Schuberth, the last 20 having a visor attachment. The chinstrap has the survival buckle that prevents the soldier from being strangled by the chinstrap in close combat. |

Please note the bullet proof bolts. The fixture points meet the ballistic performance of the composite shell. |

"I know nothing about these but what's on the labels, they came from the dissolution of the Canadian DND's Land Engineering and Test Establishment in the early 90s. They are dated 1990 and presumably part of a process where defence establishments swap material around for comparison and evaluation. Shuffling through Baers dense Teutonic prose in his volume III they seem to be part of Ulbricht's widow's offerings for the Kampfhelm project, these included both Kevlar and Dyneema prototypes, but I find no mention of a steel clad Dyneema prototype X90-2403 (but such helmets are not unknown from this time, I also have a steel-clad Schubeth 826 prototype). X90-2403 has an M75 type lining, while X90-2401 with the simple web suspension is made solely of Dyneema." Roger Lucy |

Test/Experimental - with Finnish K92 liner |
|
"I believe this is another variant of the experimental Austrian Dynameena helmet Roger Lucy had shown. Unlike his examples, this one has a smooth exterior and is furnished with a Finnish M-92 liner. It is completely unmarked." |
